What is the difference between Looker Studio and Looker?

Looker Studio — formerly Google Data Studio — is a free, browser-based reporting and dashboarding tool. It connects directly to sources and has calculated fields and blending, but no semantic modelling layer.

Looker is a separate paid enterprise platform in Google Cloud, built around LookML, a modelling language that defines metrics centrally so every report uses the same definitions.

They share branding and nothing architecturally. Looker Studio Pro adds team content management and support, but does not add a semantic layer.
